What if we met our queerness as sacred? What parts of ourselves would we stop asking permission to love?
Mimmi and I just recorded the first episode of Sacred Queerness. We sat down with two cups of tea and began with our own stories. How did each of us come to understand our queerness? What does it mean to call it sacred? There is room here for questions we are still living with and for a good laugh in the middle of it all.
The cover began with coloured pencils and a page we drew together. There were green eyes, hearts, rainbows and leaves. Somewhere along the way, we gave ourselves tails. The sketchbook and the photos from that day are part of the story, too.
Questions we’d love to hear from you on
What did you learn to hide about yourself? What would it feel like to meet that part with tenderness?
Where do you feel most free to be yourself?
What do you wish we talked about more openly?
Queer retreats in Sri Lanka
Mimmi Johansson and Pangea Queer Collective
Mimmi is hosting (Re:connect), a retreat for queer women and FLINTA people in Ahangama from 1–6 February 2027. It brings together somatic movement, yoga, play and time to get to know one another on Sri Lanka’s South Coast.

Sala and Queer Soul Rising
I’m also co-creating a retreat for queer men in Sri Lanka with Gabriel Palacios, founder of Queer Soul Rising. We’re working toward October 2027. I want to make room for queer men to gather, practise, and speak honestly about what it takes to feel at home in ourselves and with each other. We’ll share the dates and details as the retreat takes shape.
